He is one of Tencent's co-founders, the initiator of the Tencent Charity Foundation, and the founder of WUHAN COLLEGE and the Yidan Prize. In 1998, he co-founded Tencent and served as CEO. In 2007, he led Tencent to establish China's first internet industry charity foundation. From 2009, he donated 2 billion RMB to create Wuhan University, China's first non-profit private university. In 2016, he donated 2.5 billion HKD to establish the Yidan Prize, and in 2018, he set up a charity trust with Tencent stock worth over 4 billion HKD to promote education development.

騰訊主要創始人之一、騰訊公益慈善基金會發起人、武漢學院及一丹獎創辦人。1998年共同創辦騰訊公司，擔任首席行政官。2007年，主導騰訊發起成立中國互聯網行業第一家公益基金會——騰訊公益慈善基金會。

2009年起，陸續投入20億元人民幣，以「辦學不取回報」的方式捐資創辦武漢學院，開啟中國內地非營利民辦公益大學先河。2016年，捐資25億港幣設立全球教育獎項「一丹獎」。2018年，捐贈騰訊股票成立慈善信託，市值逾40億港幣，聚焦推動教育發展。
