The Hong Kong & Macau Taiwanese Charity Fund is a tax-exempt charitable organization under section 88 of the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Ordinance and was established in 2004. In the spirit of inspiring compassion, encouraging acts of kindness, promoting filial devotion, nurturing goodness and integrity, and fostering a harmonious atmosphere in society, the Fund established the “Compassion Award” in 2006, to honour those who embody selfless compassion around the world, give recognition to international charity models who are passionate about public welfare, and to spread the seeds of compassion to every corner of the world, hoping for “Tiny acts of compassion, a tide that becomes the boundless”.
Since the launch in Hong Kong, the Award has collected donations from all sectors of the community, gradually realizing the goal that compassion knows no boundaries, races or religions. The 5th Compassion Award 2010 crossed the Taiwan Strait, with Taiwan as the first stop outside Hong Kong and Macau; The 10th Compassion Award 2015 was extended to Mainland China; and the 15th Compassion Award 2020 was extended to overseas Chinese regions, with a total of eight winners (including individuals/corporate charities, charitable organizations) each year. Starting from 2025, the prize money for each awardee of the 20th and 2025 awards will be increased to US$200,000, which is required to be fully utilized for charitable purposes in the participating regions, aiming to benefit more disadvantaged groups worldwide. |

Words from the Founder, Mr. Lin TianmawIn 2004, I initiated the establishment of the Hong Kong & Macau Taiwanese Charity Fund, and in 2006, I founded the Compassion Award with the aim of recognizing selfless role models of compassion and kindness, encouraging virtuous deeds, and fostering a positive social ethos.
Over the past 20 years, this award has honoured individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to philanthropy, inspiring more people to participate and allowing compassion to become a warm current in society, initiating a cycle of goodwill. Regardless of region, race, or religion, we have selected 130 awardees to date, who have spread love through action and supported underprivileged communities.
I take joy in steadfastly standing at the forefront of both business and charity, leading by example, and continuing to contribute my modest efforts to public welfare. It brings me great happiness to see more entrepreneurs dedicating themselves to philanthropy—benefiting both others and themselves, accumulating virtue and blessings.
"It takes ten years to grow trees, but a hundred years to cultivate people." It is our hope that a century from now, the Compassion Award will stand as a benchmark for philanthropic honours, guiding and advancing the development of global public welfare.
Thank you all! |
