He is one of Tencent's co-founders, the initiator of the Tencent Charity Foundation, and the founder of WUHAN COLLEGE and the Yidan Prize. In 1998, he co-founded Tencent and served as CEO. In 2007, he led Tencent to establish China's first internet industry charity foundation. From 2009, he donated 2 billion RMB to create Wuhan University, China's first non-profit private university. In 2016, he donated 2.5 billion HKD to establish the Yidan Prize, and in 2018, he set up a charity trust with Tencent stock worth over 4 billion HKD to promote education development.
